A topical piece focusing on animal extinction fuses with technology to make a well received production at Summerhall at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Wild Thing! is a compelling, thought-provoking production that fuses performance and technology to shine a light on the affects of Climate Change, especially with animal extinction.

Tom Bailey, as the performer and creator brings to life a range of animals, many endangered, some already extinct, with great physicality. Slowly, he delves into how he wants to make a change. I have to say it’s a visually stunning piece, along with sound design by Xavier Velastin which full immersed the audience into the production.

One particularly moving moment involves a bed sheet with names of all the animal that are extinct. A haunting reminder of species lost. It’s an image that lingers with me as I write this review.

The performance doesn’t preach, but it does ask the question: Is this art a wake-up call, or are we too late? If you’re interested in climate issues or simply a show that will leave you thinking long after it ends, Wild Thing! is a great choice at this year’s Fringe. It’s emotive, intelligent, and well executed.
