Róisín Stack is a performer, theatre maker and arts manager from the West of Ireland. Before embarking on its 2026 tour, Stack performed her one woman show No Woman is an Island to a sold out crowd at the Bank of Ireland Theatre at the University of Galway.

The set up is pretty clear; Stack aims to create a lecture performance of a woman’s timeless alone-time pursuit. What could be an overly preachy, slightly awkward performance, is cleverly crafted and directed by Stack and Ann Blake to create a punchy and very funny one act.

It was clear from the opening that Stack had the audience in the palm of her hand from the get go, eliciting ohhh’s and ahhh’s from satisfied patrons, connecting and acknowledging with the tender moments of Stack’s slick 60 minute piece. Charismatic and witty, she navigates the switches from her lecture style to eye to eye contact with her audience with ease. These transitions are assisted with Eoin Winning’s effective lighting design choices and well pitched sound design by Jane Deasy.

Midway through the piece, Stack ponders the concept of time and the thought of whether this is worth our time as an audience. In my opinion, I think it is. From a well balanced script and relatable themes, it’s a great crowd pleaser, with a solo dance party or two for good measure.
