As so many shows prepare for their trip to Scotland in August, I am so excited to launch my Edinburgh Fringe 2025 Artist Interview series. I'm hoping to share some amazing shows with you, as I chat to the artists who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to make them a reality! Today, I got the chance to chat to The Practice of Zen who talks about transforming childhood memories, Tony Leung and the joys of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Without spoiling, what is your show about?

The show is about Wuxia, Zen, and Love.

How did this show come to fruition?

This production was born from a desire to transform childhood memories, my vision of the wuxia world, into a contemporary theatrical interpretation of wuxia.

Why do you think this show is an important one for audiences to see?

The wuxia universe holds an enchanting, almost mystical allure for Western audiences. Yet it remains rare to see it adapted for the stage. Through this performance, I hope audiences will discover how this fantastical world resonates deeply with our everyday lives.

How are you feeling about performing at the Edinburgh Fringe?

The Edinburgh Fringe is a vibrantly diverse space bursting with performances from artists of different regions, ages and backgrounds, creating an atmosphere with youthful energy.

What advice would you give somebody who wants to pursue a career in theatre?

Those who pursue a career in theatre must nurture curiosity, youthful spirit and passion, for all creativity springs from these three qualities, and they are precisely what draws audiences to the performance.

Okay, now for an important question. If you could have a celebrity play you in the movie about your life, who would it be and why?

If there were a movie about my life, I’d want Tony Leung to play me, because both of us have the inner child in our hearts.

And finally, why should I buy a ticket to see Practice of Zen?

To those fascinated by fantastical worlds, come experience our show. And remember, Zen isn’t some abstract concept. It’s profoundly tangible because ultimately, it stems from love.
